Our Client

Gujarat Tourism association wanted to monitor the effect of increased tourism on the air quality of tourist spots in real-time. Hence, Oizom installed Polludrone at 5 major tourist spots. The solution gave data of particulates generated, harmful gases released, and an increase in temperature. The Gujarat Tourism was able to analyze the environment’s effect on the tourists as well as the monuments.

The Challenge

Gujarat is the 6th largest state and is located in the westernmost part of India. Gujarat sometimes mentions as the ‘Jewel of Western India’. It has a rich culture, wide coastline, and scenic beauty of Great Rann of Kutch to Saputara. It has a variety of attractions such as religious sites, bird watching sites, beaches, and heritage. With an annual footfall of 19.81 million tourists, observations were made that tourist attraction sites with a major rush of people have degrading air quality. Tourism has significantly contributed to greenhouse emissions, transport pollution, land degradation, solid and sewage waste. It has colossal ill effects on the health of indigenous people and the historical monuments. Ahmedabad was mention as a World Heritage City by UNESCO in 2017 which can worsen the air quality situation. To maintain a healthy environment for its tourists, Gujarat Tourism took the initiative of continuous air quality monitoring of tourism places of Gujarat.

The Solution

For the pilot project, they decided to install Oizom Polludrone Pro at five tourist places – Porbandar, Dwarka, Somnath, Saputara, and Dhordo. The major problems encountered by tourists are dust particles, and CO2 level & temperature increment. Hence, Oizom offered an eco-friendly environmental monitoring solution for eco-tourism applications. Polludrone monitored PM2.5, PM10, CO, CO2, Temperature, and Humidity in these areas. The solution continuously monitors the parameters and generates Air Quality Index (AQI) and sends the environmental data over the cloud. Oizom has also offered data solutions in the form of the iframe that is embedded in the Gujarat Tourism website to spread awareness about ambient air quality. With this solution, Gujarat Tourism can identify the most vulnerable time of the year during which the impact is highest on the environment and can take preventive actions to reduce its effect.

The Result

Installing Polludrone Pro enables continuous air quality monitoring, and the real-time data is auto-updateable on the Gujarat Tourism website. The authorities receive diurnal air quality reports and trends. The data widget uses color codes to show the environmental condition status. Such as Good, Satisfactory, Moderate, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe as per CPCB AQI standards. AQI has made it easy to assess the environmental exposure level and take preventive actions to conserve Gujarat’s attraction sites.
